Tights, Tights, and more Tights

I got a special request from a friend (Thanks Jackie!) to do a post on colored and patterned tights. And I thought it was an excellent idea, considering how the tight trend is making quite a statement these days.

First I will start with colored tights. This can be very tricky and can go wrong quickly... so I will give you some of my best tips to make colored tights a success in your wardrobe.

  • colored tights can most easily be worn with a solid color dress that compliments the color of your garment. For example think of a navy dress. This can be best paired with mustard yellow tights because the yellow will make the navy pop
  • another easy way to work the colors are with printed clothes. For example a navy, fuchsia, and yellow plaid shirt worn with shorts can be paired with a pair of tights that pull out a color from that paid shirt.
  • use accessories to help tie in your colored tights selection
  • lastly use colored tights to help color-block an outfit. For example wear a khaki jacket, bright blue skirt, rust orange colored tights paired with brown boots.

See the photos below for more examples of how to wear the colored tights.

Now for the patterned tights! These I find to be a little easier to pull off. I love to wear patterned tights with outfits that I find to be on the simple side to help give them a little something more. Here are a few tips I have to help those struggling with the patterned tights trend.

  • pair smaller patterned tights with larger patterns on your clothing.
  • wear a pattern with a solid colored dress
  • you can also put black patterned tights over colored tights to wear both trends together.
  • pay attention to proportions!
  • and remember you don't want to overwhelm your outfit, only enhance it!

Leather Details - Trend Fixation

One of my favorite trends right now is leather detailing. This can be as simple as adding a leather pocket or giving a jacket a whole new look with leather sleeves. Leather in general has a reputation for being rugged and edgy. Therefore, adding one small piece of leather gives a simple garment some edge and sophistication.

I just can't seem to get enough of this trend; and I myself, own a few pieces and want to own more. Now, I personally don't like to wear real leather but I do love the look/trend of leather detailing. Some of my favorite leather details include: leather sleeves, collars, pockets, elbows, linings, lapels, and trims. Smaller leather details are also great to pair back to leather shoes, accessories, or bottoms (pants, skirts, shorts, etc.).

The following are some examples of leather detailing that show how great this trend is for fall. Enjoy!
